Create the perfect pet for your Sims to train, play with, and love throughout a lifetime. Pick everything from their paws to their personality. Choose from dozens of popular dog and cat breeds like Schnauzer and Siamese. Or create a unique cat or dog by modifying their features and body type. Your Sims can teach their pets tricks, take them for a romp in the park to meet other furry friends, or buy them toys, beds, and much more. But pets have minds of their own-so expect the unexpected!
Of course The Sims 2 Pets is a well awaited expansion for The Sims 2, and there are many reasons to enjoy it, but there are a few ways to improve!
I'll start off with the positives. The pets themselves are a fantastic addition to the game! The pet designing tool or the CAP (create-a-pet) is fantastic and allows you to create any sort of dog or cat with a massive variety of colours and shades to choose from (and the chance to upload your own patterns). Dogs and Cats are of course the most exciting pet to have around and there are a variety of different ways to interact with them and a good selection of tricks to teach them. As you spend more time with your pet you'll notice him/her climbing on furniture, barking at neighbours, eating food off the table or even destroying Sofas/TVS or anything then can get there hands (or paws) on. It is up to your sims to train it as it gets older. Scold them when they are bad, and praise them for something good, and this is just one way to manipulate them, various tricks such as "come", "roll over" or even "play dead" can be taught to your pet. There is also a small amount of social interactions such as petting and hugging and games such as fetch and "finger wiggle".
It's not only the bigger pets that get in on the action. The chance to own birds and guinea pigs is perfect for Sims who can't be bovered with the hassle (but you still have to clean them out!). These pets also come with a variety of interactions such as "pet" and you can even let your bird have a fly around the house! To make the EP even better in this department it would of been nice to be able to own some different pets, there's the obvious, rabbits, hamsters and other small animals, but the less obvious iguana (seen in Unleashed), snakes, or even farmyard animals.
The little amount of new objects lets this pack down, with a measly 2 cat toys and 1 dog toy, your pets will get bored and have nothing to do! A larger variety of pet houses and baskets would of been a little nicer aswell! We were also promised Pets theme objects/furniture and clothes in this pack, but there isn't a large amount. On the other hand this pack delivers what it is built to do. Give simmers and sims the chance to create and look after there own pets in game!
