Welcome! This tutorial will give you step by step instructions on how to create custom images for neighbourhoods

This Tutorial was created using Windows Vista (hence the screenshots) however the method has been confirmed to work on any Windows operating system!

Part 1 - Creating Pictures for Personal Use

This first section is about creating pictures for your own personal use on a already built neighbourhood, if you wish to create images for uploading a terrain online follow instructions in Part 2

1.) Start The Sims 2 and take your desired picture, I recommend that if you can, taking the image in the highest quality.

2.) Find the screenshot in the following location
mydocuments/eagames/thesims2/
storytelling

3.) Copy the image and close this folder, now locate the following folder
mydocuments/eagames/thesims2/
neighbourhoods/N00*/

4.) Delete or rename the PNG file named N00*_neighborhood (becareful not to delete your .PACKAGE file!) and paste your custom image inside this folder.

5.) Rename your picture N00*_neighborhood, and your away! You picture will know show up in the neighbourhood list! (My picture is under Terrain Tutorial in the screenshot)

* The number of your neighbourhood in the list. 1 2 and 3 are usually Built in neighbourhoods

Part 2 - Creating Pictures for the menu screen and internet

This section helps you create images that will appear when your new terrain is selected in the menu. These images are also useful online.]

1.) Start The Sims 2 and open your custom neighbourhood.

2.) Change camera settings to Medium size and High Quality

3.) Find your perfect screenshot (using the TAB key and zooming in and out is the best way to fit it all in) I would also recommend using a blank canvas to avoid confusion when online

4.) Hold down CTRL + 4 to save the position of the Camera and take a picture of the land as Grassland

5.) Open the cheat box and type in "terraintype desert", and take a picture. (Enter TAB mode and click 4 to return the camera to the right position)

6.) Do the same for "terraintype dirt" and "terraintype concrete"

Part 3 - Making them work in the Game

1.) Find the screenshots in the following location
mydocuments/eagames/thesims2/
storytelling

2.) Copy them all into
/mydocuments/EAGames/TheSims2/SC4 Terrains
Make an extra copy of the grassy picture

3.) My terrains name is TheSimsSpot so i would rename the pictures as follows:

Grass terrain 1: thesimsspot
Grass terrain 2: thesimsspot_lush
Desert Terrain: thesimsspot_desert
Temperate terrain: thesimsspot_dirt
Concrete terrain: thesimsspot_concrete

4.) Convert all of the pictures to .PNG format, you can use whatever program you want but they're are free converters on the internet. (if you do have the right software available i would also recommend you resize the images to 300 x 225, however if the screenshots were taken on medium size this should not effect it to much)

5.) Start the game, click "create custom neighbourhood" and click your neighbourhoods name to check the pictures, ticking the concrete, desert or temperate buttons reveals the others!
